“The absence of tactile markers and accessibility features in cosmetic packaging is a major hurdle for the visually impaired. To tackle this, a shift from subjective design to universal design principles is imperative in making cosmetic products universally user-friendly.”

Tact Beauty is a line of makeup products designed specifically for use by the visually impaired. It was designed in collaboration with the Helen Keller School for the Blind in Brooklyn, New York.

This product is a step in making cosmetics as tactile as possible. The use of braille allows for users to feel what products they are using. The magnetic closure adds a auditory feedback to the user indicating that it is sealed. And an ergonomic round profile is paired with a flat side to prevent products from rolling away from where it was placed.

A commitment to the act of listening was crucial to the process of creating Tact. Conversations with members of the Helen Keller School for the Blind directly shaped the design process. Their feedback constantly oriented each phase of the ideation and prototyping progression to be a product that would truly enhance their beauty routine - and consequently their confidence in their presentation to the world .
